Yoga

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing.  Physical benefits of yoga include increased muscle strength and tone, improved respiration, cardio and circulatory health, helps to maintain a balanced metabolism and can aid weight reduction.

Pilates

Pilates focuses on stretching and strengthening the whole body to improve balance, posture, muscle-strength and flexibility.  Pilates elongates and strengthens, improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.

Yoga and Pilates Fusion

The Yoga fusion technique combines the benefits of strength training of Pilates and the flexibility of yoga in one session. Yoga brings its stress-busting benefits and mindfulness to your exercise routine. This is a great workout that can help you build muscle and stamina while teaching you to relax and focus.

This workshop will offer participants an introduction to the physical and psychological effects of inactivity for extended periods of time and the benefits of doing simple yoga practices throughout the day. The group will be offered a variety of simple movements that can be done at the desk and within the office space that will minimise physical discomfort, reduce stress and mental tension, improve focus and energise the body and mind. Additional benefits often include improved sleep patterns.

This 45 minute workshop will cover 6 key areas

  • The importance of movement
  • The principals of motion
  • Common injuries, chronic pain and how to work with these restrictions
  • Seated yoga practices and basic sequences
  • Standing yoga practices and basic sequences
  • Yoga as a tool for life

Each session would be one hour long and delivered to up to 8 people, all equipment will be provided. A room would need to be 6meters x 5meters roughly for 8 people.

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates from the 1920’s to late 60’s and originally called Contrology. Pilates will rid your body of tension patterns and leave behind supple muscle. In Joseph Pilates’ words, “In 10 sessions you will feel a difference, in 20 you will see a difference and in 30 you will have a new body.” Get your physical ritual started! Joseph Pilates put it best, “Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” Jo enjoys seeing those words manifest in her clients’ deep and transformative work and loves to witness the improvements and changes in their bodies.

A great mind and body workout, Pilates can really make a difference to your health without too much strain on your body. Learning how to control the movement of your body will help with correct spinal and pelvic alignment and flexibility. Practitioners say regular pilates practice can help improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension.

These workshops are fun, challenging and have a particular intention so that you can focus, deepen and enhance your practice. No matter what your goals, you will leave a class feeling stronger and happier in yourself.

Each session would be one hour long and delivered to up to 8 people, all equipment will be provided.

This Yoga-Pilates fusion class is not only a great antidote to periods of prolonged sitting but will also restore core stability, balance and symmetry to the body, as well as improving range of motion making it the perfect workout on its own or a great complement to other sports.

The effects of prolonged sitting are not limited to the compression of joints, tight muscles, reduced mobility and loss of strength but it can also affect digestion, circulation, metabolism and reduce brain function. We often compensate for this by participating in the same physical activity of choice on a regular basis such as running or cycling. While this is a great idea the repetitive nature of many of these and many other activities can lead to the overuse of some muscles and underuse of others. This results in musculoskeletal imbalances which strains the joints and causes some muscle groups to tighten which limits the range of motion. It is therefore essential to rebalance the body to avoid injury and improve performance. This class will work on improving core stability through Pilates exercised, enhance range of motion through functional stretching and build strength and endurance through creative sequencing.

This 45-60 minute Yoga-Pilates fusion class will

  • Strengthen the lower back and deep core Paraspinal muscles to prevent injury and promote a healthy spine
  • Enhance core strength of the deep abdominal muscles to promote a health back and spine
  • Rebalance the body through stretching out tighter muscles and improving range of motion
  • Support knee health through stability and functional movement of joints
  • Strengthen the arms, upper torso, abdominals and back that are prone to weakness
  • Use body weight resistance and equipment to build muscle, strength bones and improve overall health
  • Improve endurance and stamina

This workshop can be delivered to groups of up to 15 people.

Yoga places more emphasis on relaxation and meditation whilst both practices develop strength, balance, posture, flexibility and breathing.  Pilates tends to focus on a flow of movement whilst Yoga more on static poses.

A large meeting or training room would be ideal depending on size of group for the session.  A cool or air conditioned room will make it more comfortable for the participants.

Yoga and Pilates Classes require a room  to be at least 6 meters x 5 meters for a group of 8 people

Yoga and Pilates Fusions Class requires an open area / studio space of roughly  1.75m x 2.25m floor space per person. This workshop can be delivered to groups of up to 15 people

The programme is suited to all levels of the workplace and all levels of fitness.

Participants should where comfortable ‘active’ clothing that does not restrict movement.

Improved physical and mental health means a more productive workforce.  Improves posture which can reduce the risk of injury. Boosts stamina, strengthens muscles, relieves tension, aids relaxation. Improved energy and vitality.
