Mayor NHS Health Check

Full Description

What is the Health MOT Roadshow?

The Health MOT Roadshow is a FREE mobile health check initiative designed to engage with and signpost harder-to-reach individuals and communities in Kent to the NHS Health Check programme. The NHS Health Checks may then lead to referral opportunities for other Public Health commissioned programmes.

The specially trained Health MOT Roadshow Team will deliver effective and innovative health awareness engagement activity. A branded mobile health unit, with an Interactive Health Kiosk as a primary method of engagement, will be utilised by the team in a variety of outreach settings.

Who does the project target?

The Roadshow will deliver Health MOTs using the Interactive Health Kiosk to all visitors but will focus primarily on the population eligible for the NHS Health Check (aged 40-74).

People within the age range are invited every five years to receive an NHS Health Check to assess their risk of Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD). CVD includes heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and vascular dementia.

Individuals who have already been diagnosed with any of the above conditions, or who have hypertension, or are already on a statin medication to control cholesterol, or are receiving palliative care, are not eligible for a NHS Health Check but will be welcomed to utilise the Interactive Health Kiosk  mobile health check to help monitor their condition.

NHS Health Checks

The NHS Health Check is a sophisticated check of your heart health. Aimed at adults in England aged 40 to 74, it checks ‘vascular’ or circulatory health and can detect potential problems before they do real damage.

It will assess the risk of an individual developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and some forms of dementia and give personalised advice on how to reduce it.

It’s free of charge, including any follow-up tests or appointments.

Can the Roadshow visit my event?

Yes! If you have an organisation or event which you think would be suitable for the Health MOT Roadshow to visit, please get in touch for more information about our mobile health check.

Interactive Health Kiosk

The Wellbeing People Interactive Health Kiosk allows individuals to self-test key indicators of their general health: Weight, Body Mass Index, Body Fat Content, Heart Rate and Blood Pressure.

A Health MOT is performed in around five minutes, with a print out of the results showing how they compare with accepted medical standards. Use of the Health Kiosk may generate a number of options for onward referral including weight management, smoking cessation and other community based services

.

Locations

Locations across Kent are likely to include shopping centres, supermarkets, social housing, places of worship, day centre facilities, community centres, sporting events and any other identified locations with high footfall in harder to reach groups.
